We were so excited to meet Kelli, her son, sister and mother who all came to the cake consultation together. Kelli already had a great concept for her wedding and came prepared with pictures of a few cake ideas and wedding design details. They were planning an eco-chic, Hawaiian tropical meets semi-vintage wedding with lots of Do-It-Yourself projects and cute touches of natural detail. Kelli and her family are very close and her sister was instrumental in helping with many of the amazing details.
Their beautiful vintage Hawaiian ceremony was followed by a laid back, homey backyard reception at her grandmother’s house in Wahiawa. Check out the chic lace runners along the fencing, red heart guitar pick favors and lovely mason jars. I am in love their VW van! And check out Kelli and David singing a song with their guitars – so romantic! I think they chose the perfect photographer (What a Day Photography) to capture their wedding style.
Kelli and David selected a unique cake display to match their down-home, DIY themed wedding. Instead of the traditional 3-tiered stacked cake, they chose 3 individual cakes each iced using textured buttercream techniques and topped with cute fabric flags that Kelli provided.
Pink Cake: Devils Food Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Raspberry Cream filling iced in columns of light soft pink buttercream scallops to resemble the rows of falling tiers in a pretty dress and the top view as a burst of a spring time flower.
Pale Yellow Cake: Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese filling iced in pale yellow buttercream in a completely textured pattern for a charming rustic appeal.
Icy Blue Cake: Lemon Cake with Lemon Cream filling iced in tall lines of ruffles to resemble a falling, flowy piece of ribbon.
Kelli sent us this email after the wedding... “We loved your cakes. They looked amazing...straight out of my head, onto the plates. We were really excited about how the cakes turned out. It was perfection. Thank you so much."
Congratulations to Kelli and David – we wish you a lifetime of happiness together!
